Culminated below are several community organizations and programs that I have had the privilege of collaborating with, each of which has contributed immensely to my personal and professional growth.
The Knowledge House (TKH) Innovation Fellowship is an intensive 12-month training program that integrates hands-on learning through a project-based, data science curriculum that spans over 400 hours of technical instruction and professional development. As a Data Science Fellow I will continue to refine my skill set in programming, data cleaning, analysis, modeling, visualization, and managing large data sets using Python and SQL.
VHIO is a student-led organization at UC Berkeley that provides medical interpretations and volunteering services to clinics, medical panelists, university-affiliated groups, community centers, and health organizations in the San Francisco Bay area. My role started as a volunteer interpreter where we trained on medical terminology, ethical principles, and our responsibilities in healthcare settings. As a volunteer, I was able to interpret for organizations such as Breathmobile, Operation Access, Sutter Health, among many other great clinics. In my second year involved I was voted to become the coordinator for the Spanish Department, where my new responsibilities included being the prime point of communicating for clinics, coordinating a team of 40 volunteers, and designing team activities to maintain engagement.
BASIS is a Community Resource for Science (CRS) program that provides free in-class science lessons to elementary school students. Through one-hour lessons directly in classrooms, we engaged students in hands-on investigations and STEM challenges that aligned with their learning styles. As the team leader, I organized the lesson plan and coordinated meetings with my team where we strategized our teaching approaches.
Bridging Berkeley is a mentoring program that matches UC Berkeley students with Berkeley middle school youth, especially those who will be first-generation college students. As a mentor, my role was to help middle school students transition to online learning and help foster critical thinking as well as problem-solving skills. This involved designing weekly learning plans, adapting teaching methods to meet each individual's needs, and incorporating skills to foster students' holistic growth and development.
Memorial Medical Center offers enhanced patient care through a dedicated team of volunteers. As a volunteer, my role was to facilitate patient discharge from the hospital and ensure that they had access to transportation post-care. As part of the Blood Donor Center I also prepared vacutainers to expedite donation procedures for health practitioners and maintained communication with patients to schedule appointments.
